Welcome to this latest attempt to connect librarians from west-central Wisconsin with each other! Please send in content (booklists, ideas, photos, etc.), and comment on posts so we can help each other. If you were using feedmyinbox to get new posts sent to you before, you'll need to switch to another service (blogtrottr works like feedmyinbox, googlereader is a good blog-reader to try).

New Infographic about Diversity in Publishing

Infographic depicting the percentage of children's book characters based on 2018 publishing statistics kept by the Cooperative Children's Book Center. For text of the information, see https://ccbc.education.wisc.edu/books/pcstats.asp
Credit:  Huyck, David and Sarah Park Dahlen. (2019 June 19). Diversity in Children’s Books 2018. sarahpark.com blog. Created in consultation with Edith Campbell, Molly Beth Griffin, K. T. Horning, Debbie Reese, Ebony Elizabeth Thomas, and Madeline Tyner, with statistics compiled by the Cooperative Children’s Book Center, School of Education, University of Wisconsin-Madison: http://ccbc.education.wisc.edu/books/pcstats.asp. Retrieved from https://readingspark.wordpress.com/2019/06/19/picture-this-diversity-in-childrens-books-2018-infographic/

Another graphic illustration of the state of diversity in children's books.  In this year's graphic, the creators tried to bear witness not only to the lack of diversity in characters, but also to the inaccurate or incomplete portrayals black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC).
