Welcome to this latest attempt to connect librarians from west-central Wisconsin with each other! Please send in content (booklists, ideas, photos, etc.), and comment on posts so we can help each other. If you were using feedmyinbox to get new posts sent to you before, you'll need to switch to another service (blogtrottr works like feedmyinbox, googlereader is a good blog-reader to try).

Surprising Prizes

Experiential Prizes are a cool idea, and research shows that they can be more effective than trinkets and toys.  Jenna Gilles-Turner, in Fall Creek, has challenged kids to read for chances to be the one to get to SLIME Jenna at the Summer Library Program party!  Everyone gets to be in on the fun of watching Jenna good-humoredly submit to slime, and the winner gets plenty of cheers and attention.  Jenna says response has been great for this.  We'll talk to her after the party to see if she has tips for getting slime out of hair and clothes!

Storytime University

I know for a fact that you are all busy as can be right now, providing great service to the kids in your community.  From what I hear, libraries are FULL to bursting, and many of you are heading outside the library and doing some terrific outreach, too.  Thanks for all that!

In the meantime, the folks at Storytime Underground have come up with a great new tool for you--Storytime University!  If you are looking for a way to help organize your own training in making your storytimes and service to young people, families and caregivers better and more intentional, please check it out.  There are suggestions of things to do, and you can earn badges for doing them.  Best of all, there is a community of practice, a group of other people exploring and learning and improving their skills.

I'd love to hear what you think of it when you get started!
