Welcome to this latest attempt to connect librarians from west-central Wisconsin with each other! Please send in content (booklists, ideas, photos, etc.), and comment on posts so we can help each other. If you were using feedmyinbox to get new posts sent to you before, you'll need to switch to another service (blogtrottr works like feedmyinbox, googlereader is a good blog-reader to try).

Drops of Water on a Penny?

My fabulous friend and colleague Sue Abrahamson from the Waupaca Public Library shared a tidbit with me the other day about an experiment she was doing with kids about how many drops of water fit on a penny.
This is something that could work as an all-day, drop-in activity, where kids report their findings on a big chart:

or you could include it as an activity with other water-related or surface-tension experiments.  Sounds like fun!  Sue shared her source for more background and extension ideas, too.

Fabulous Pinterest Boards

The United Way St. Croix Valley's Success by Six Initiative (for Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix Counties) has created a terrific, fully-vetted Pinterest page with some great topics for parents of young children!  Task force members are looking at each page and determining its value before putting it up, though people from are welcome to recommend resources for them to examine.Topics include social and emotional well-being, food/eating, books, and more.  Wow!  This resource is not geographically-centered, so it will be useful to people all over the country if they find it.

Take a look.  It would be good to promote to parents or caregivers, get more information for yourself, put on your library's social media and websites, and more!
