Early Literacy Calendars and MORE

It's been a good month for Early Literacy in Wisconsin!  Growing Wisconsin Readers materials are out there at libraries (hope it is going well for everyone).  We've had a series of workshops about the Growing Wisconsin Readers initiative.  Several of us were able to attend a rocking Early Literacy PreConference last week with the amazing musician and child development specialist Jim Gill (and several amazing youth services librarians who presented about what they are doing at their library).  There will be lots more in the coming months about Early Literacy resources, ideas, and inspiration, so keep your eyes peeled, and send in suggestions of your own!

In the meantime, I'd like to draw your attention to a terrific new resource brought to us by the Youth Services Section of the Wisconsin Library Association.  Twelve fabulous YSS members created a month-worth of early literacy activities for families to do at home or out in the community.   The calendars are here:

Bloomer toddler time incorporates plenty of PLAY!
Here's something for a little regional pride:  Three of the months are contributed by librarians from IFLS-land!  Hooray for Georgia Jones (New Richmond), Kathy Larson (Bloomer) and Becky Arenivar (Prescott) for lending your inspiration, expertise, and terrific ideas to this project.
