Becky Arenivar shared some ideas about what she is planning to do this summer to incorporate world music into their summer programming. She sent some great specific ideas to me to post on the blog, so here goes:

I've been collecting resources for a "Make Noise @ Your Library" program for the SRP.

Let's Make Music! multicultural songs and activities: an interactive musical trip around the world : sing and play songs from around the world : create your own instruments from 10 different countries using recycled materials by Jessica Baron Turner and Ronny Susan Schiff; J284 TUR; MORE has 1 copy at Baldwin.
This is a great book that has instructions for making 10 instruments from other countries. Each instrument section has a little blurb about the country, its music and the authentic instrument and a traditional song from that country. There are also photos of the authentic instruments in the back of the book. The instruments to make are all made out of recycled or easy-to-find craft supplies.

World music CDs. The Putumayo label has dozens of titles, many of which are specifically for children.

Here are a couple more good bets for multi-cultural music cds:
Fiesta Mexicana by Sones de Mexico Chicago
Ladysmith Black Mambazo (from South Africa) has several CDs in the MORE system--and they have a new children's CD just out this year!

Thanks to Becky. What are you planning??
